About Mooresville
Mooresville, located approximately 25 minutes north of Charlotte in Iredel county, has earned the nickname of Race City USA. From Railroad town to textile center to Race City USA, it is home to over 60 NASCAR racing teams and related businesses plus the NASCAR Technical Institute and NASCAR pit crew training school. Mooresville is the place to get your motor running. It is also home of The North Carolina Auto Racing Hall of Fame which also serves as the town’s official visitor’s center.
A town of over 18,000 residents over 14.7 square miles of which 0.20% is water.
What started as a small town centered around a few large textile and furniture factories, soon developed into a bedroom community for Charlotte area workers. Mooresville has experienced rapid growth and considerable housing and shopping center development as well.

Founded in the 1850s, our town has preserved a number of historic buildings, especially in the downtown area.
The Mooresville Recreation and Parks Department operates out of three locations to provide all Mooresville residents the opportunity to enjoy the facilities, leagues and programs. In addition, the department offers nine parks including seven tennis courts, eight outdoor basketball courts, six lighted ball fields and a gym for volleyball, badmittion and basketball. We also offer a wide variety of classes for youth and adults in athletics, creative arts and fitness.
The Town of Mooresville and southern Iredell County has experienced tremendous growth. That growth has required the Town of Mooresville to institute policies and procedures to aid in managing how growth and development occurs in the town and within its Extra Territorial Zoning Jurisdiction.
Land Development Services are those services provided by various Town Departments dealing with the zoning, land use, infrastructure, construction safety, and service delivery to developed parcels of land with the Town of Mooresville and the Extra Territorial Zoning Jurisdiction.
The Land Development Process is the method by which a parcel or parcels of land are taken from an idea to reality. The process is outlined in a Flow Chart and in the Land Development Process Manual. The Land Development process can begin in one of several ways. If the proposed site is outside of the corporate limits of the town, a Utility Extension Request must be made to the Town Board of Commissioners. This request must be accompanied by a signed Voluntary Annexation Petition. If the subject property lies outside of the planning jurisdiction of the town, a request for release of jurisdiction must be made to the Iredell County, municipal zoning must be established on the property.
